Things to see and do in Lancaster
An important site to see is Ashton Memorial and Williamson Park, with the latter being an Edwardian construct which touches the sky and can be seen from as far as the M6. the park it is located in goes by the name of Williamson Park, based on its creator who’s son was then Lord Ashton and dedicated the memorial to his first wife. An art gallery has now been set up here and wedding ceremonies take place as well. The park is a glorious experience on its own with its lake and play area. It also has a Butterfly House, and Mammal and Bird Enclosure as well as a gift shop for those quirky little souvenirs.
Visit Lancaster Castle, a medieval building in the centre of the city where it is said the Pendle Witches were sentenced to death, and is still functioning as one of the oldest prisons in England. Visitors love this attraction and it is a favourite of the locals during Bonfire Night when the fireworks light up the sky.
Another attraction is St George’s Quay which dates back to 1750, the time when the city was developing itself as a port. Export of goods to British colonies took place at this time as well import of goods as well as slaves. The Maritime Museum located here at the Quay has been set up to explain the story of the city from this time onwards and is definitely worth a visit.
Make a trip to the Water Witch Pub, which is especially a great spot on sunny days as it is located just by the Lancaster Canal and is just a few steps away from shops and other attractions.
Only five miles away from the city is the seaside town of Morecambe to view a beautiful sunset and get some fresh air. There are various other forms of entertainment here as well including a bowling alley, theatre, laser tag centre and a hall for concerts and performances.
